My Philosophy of Counselling
My philosophy of counselling has a strong existential and person-centered framework. I view psychotherapy as a possibility for clients to learn more about themselves, become more aware of their feelings, thoughts and behaviors. To help them recognize their opportunities in life and limitations, to invite them to review their understanding of their personal input into their life.
I believe therapy has to combine the best of different orientations. This integration allows me to tailor therapeutic work to suit each client individually according to presenting problem and the personality of the client. Together we look into the difficulties that are present in client’s life and then decide on what would be the most appropriate way of working with it. I acknowledge that our childhood experiences influence the way we are in the world and with the help of psychodynamic framework we connect with the past experiences of the client and see how they are affecting the present. I also find that CBT is an essential tool in challenging thinking patterns to help clients deal with anxiety, phobias, stress, and depression. Gestalt approach is brilliant in exploring what is evident in the here and now and I do draw a lot from this school of thought. I’m a great believer in the power of mindfulness: how to be in the moment and start noticing life, living it – not just dashing through…
I trust my clients’ wisdom and respect their decision on how they choose to live their life. I would like to be able to help them to cope with difficulties on their chosen path…
