She built on this by completing postgraduate professional training as a clinical / developmental psychologist, and specialised for 21 years in the area of working with children and adults who experienced developmental challenges, and their families. More recently, Margaret completed specialist training to Masters level in counselling and psychotherapy. She is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). She is also accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland as a Chartered Psychologist Specialising in Psychotherapy, and has been awarded the European Certificate of Psychotherapy by the European Association of Psychotherapy.
Margaret’s current practice is dedicated to counselling and psychotherapy. She does not complete diagnostic psychological assessments or reports.
Margaret’s counselling and psychotherapy training is Humanistic and Integrative, where respect for each individual person, personal responsibility, awareness and the pursuit of self realisation are key principles. Blocks to self realisation and fulfilment may be explored. These blocks may be associated with incomplete processing of one’s experiences – emotionally, cognitively, somatically, relationally and spiritually. Each person’s needs are individual and Margaret holds deep respect for clients’ own personal wisdom, and the need for her to attune to, facilitate and follow this in her work with clients. This work is facilitated in the context of a supportive, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, where the therapist’s holding and receptive presence is paramount. Margaret considers this authentic presence and connection with clients to be at the heart of the work.
Margaret aspires to be of support to individual, adult clients who may be experiencing struggles in their lives and/or in their personal psychological wellbeing. She aims to facilitate clients in processing and responding to the source of their difficulties in a manner that is compatible with clients’ own wishes, temperament and personal process.
