Understanding Hypnosis
The fears, myths, and mystery surrounding hypnosis are completely undeserved.
-
Not mind control – There is no question of being controlled, manipulated, or made to reveal secrets.
-
Not sleep – In hypnosis, you are often more aware than usual, and your senses can be heightened.
-
Safe and natural – Almost anyone can enter a hypnotic state, and no harm can come to you during hypnosis.
A good definition of hypnosis:
A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness, induced by suggestion.
Questions & Answers
What is hypnosis?
A natural state of focused relaxation and heightened awareness. It is safe, non-addictive, and a normal function of the mind.
Are there people who cannot be hypnotised?
No – though the depth of hypnosis varies from person to person.
Are drugs or tablets used?
No.
Shall I be aware of what is happening?
Yes. Most people say, “It didn’t work – I never went under,” when in fact they were fully aware throughout.
So I am not asleep then?
Correct – you are simply very relaxed. This is why it’s sometimes called Conscious Hypnosis.
Is there any cause for concern?
None whatsoever. Hypnosis is a proven therapeutic aid.
Could I be influenced to do anything against my will or nature?
No. If such a suggestion were made, you would naturally come out of the hypnotic state.
